So, on a recent trip to the old convict ruins on the Tasman Peninsula, we stumbled across this farm near Cardwell Ridge, above the Convict Coalmine site near Saltwater River. It seems we may have a family connection to a convict past? Or is the name from another source?

 

It is often impossible to trace convict history here, as not surprisingly, families kept any convict ties very secret until very recently, and the oral tradition here is not like that of Ireland. (although Ireland's oral tradition is probably not what it was either, and sadly is unlikely to outlast my generation...)

 

Gill and I had a great week with Patrick and Glynn - just like old times! They have left me with a new wireless network, I am skype enabled, I have Scrabble saturation and a keg of beer brewing. I also have an inexplicable tremor in the mornings and a "terrible drouth" on me!!! A few pics stolen from daveyp in an album to the right...
