    work and play

So, a hectic few weeks have passed! The few days hanging out with Mark were fun - wallet-sapping, liver munching fun, but thats Galway for you! Working after a long break was interesting - its always more tiring than I remember, and starting work in an unfamiliar place always ups the tension a bit, but I needn't have worried! Settled back in fairly quickly, and Sligo ED staff were welcoming and friendly! Very different kettle of fish going from brand spanking new tertiary referral ED in Perth to rural "casualty" department in the West of Ireland. Lots of minor stuff, with occasional tornados of panic as every patient cut from a car wreck lands in your ED at the same time, mangled and intoxicated and wailing and spitting, with no consultant even on-call! Far cry from full trauma teams of three-plus docs in SCGH - In fact it was more like two traumas per doc! They manage pretty well considering! Anyway, staying in Tadhg's new house in beautiful Strandhill has been great, but now I am off to Sri Lanka tomorrow for a couple of weeks of play!

Check out their blog here in its infancy - some cool photos, even if they do keep calling me Dirty Donnie!!!

    Ailladie

Great weekend in the Burren climbing seacliff limestone. Links to some of the Galway guys' photos from the weekend here (the last four entries in the news section are about the weekend just past - ie: Diarmuid's new (?) route, Michael Reardon's visit, New Doolin problems, and the "photo report 28/05/06" bit (photo of me and Eoin after surviving Garbh in this section), plus a selection of old Ailladie photos here. A couple of humbling falls, some lost skin seconding the aprropriately named "Garbh" E2 5b (Irish for "rough") and finally did "Pis Fliuch" HVS 5a (classic HVS of the crag, and one of the best anywhere) and "Jug City" VS 4c. Fell off "Spitfire" E1 5b which was annoying, getting disproportionately terrified for no apparent reason, did a few other things...anyway, photos to follow, and Pembroke in Wales for the long weekend coming up! Also met this guy (Michael Reardon), which was interesting - a crazy californian soloist who flamboyantly soloed routes up to E5 with obedient photographer in tow...it was all very odd, but amazing to watch...
