    some day to day stuff

Having broadband is good for your chess! Have just pushed my rating up to 1727, which is the best it has been in years! The beautiful Tasmanian wood chess board I bought myself helps too...it is Huon Pine and Myrtle, with a border of Blackwood and Black-heart Sassafras, and staunton pieces. Nerd? Yes, I admit it! Been sketching a bit recently too, which has been fun. Tomorrow off to Jen and Ray's post-primary exam celebration. It should be fun - I can still remember the sense of getting your life back like it was yesterday, so I am sure they are similarly over-the-moon!

    Mount Field

So my blog is either in feast or in famine! No pics in months, and now two new albums in a week. Went for a big day walk in Mount Field area yesterday. Walked from the Nelson Huts area up to Memorial Hut, then up to Naturaliste Peak, then back across K-col and around to The Watcher, and down onto the Tarn Shelf and back to the car. A beautiful, crisp, clear, early winter day, and stunning walk. Capped it off with a close up wombat sighting - stopped to take the moonlight shot at the end, and heard a chewing noise near my feet - I was almost standing on a chunky wombat! He was hardly bothered by my presence - he looked up, then kept munching! All in all, a great long day-walk.

    House pics

A few more pictures of our humble abode et environs! Here is a link to the "for sale" ad for the house, before we moved our camp furniture in to temporarily replace the period-y stuff that Haig and Lauren (previous owners, and current next-door-neighbours!) had in situ... http://www.raineandhorne.com.au/property-display.php?p_code=852921&totalRows_properties=43

So, at last, we are online again! No ADSL line, but caved in and went for wireless broadband...so here are some catch-up photos...Eimear - will put up some house pics in a day or two - gotta take some new ones, now that the floors are sanded, and my work on the back outdoor area is nearing completion! (barbecue - tick, benches - tick, patio - almost tick, retaining wall - tick!!!!)

    no broadband on the mountain!!!

Hmmm...it seems no broadband for South Hobart...too much splitting of the copper, or some such excuse...oh well. Good few weeks - lake Rhona trip was good - see Carole's site for photos and summary. I am now an ICU registrar...sudden bombardment with Cardiac indices, SVRI's, ITBI's, SIMV and PEEp...but I am getting the hang of it. HATE ward rounds though - dunno how you medical docs handle it - so boring! It has confirmed one thing though - we work far harder in ED than any of the other crit care specialities or medical specialities! It is so cruisey 90% of the time....can't believe I actually get lunch breaks - amazing! The 13 hour shifts are a killer though.

Been working lots on the house - built benches out the back after sorting out the patio, and they are great! Lovely hardwood. It inspires me...have the tools, there is no stopping me! I bought some Huon Pine offcuts last weekend and am going to make a coffee table with an inlaid chess set. Floors look great sanded too. All very domestique! Still, won't be overdoing the domesticity - I am born to wander! So, will be in France from start of June, then Ireland for a couple of weeks, to show Gill my mountains, and meet lots of you!!!
