Gill and I are just back from paddling the Arthur River up in the Tarkine Wilderness in the Northwest. It was surprisingly challenging in a heavy big old plastic hired Canadian canoe! There were sneaky little bits of grade three hiding in among lots of grade one and two stuff, with occasional breaks for trout fishing in the languid bits. We had some thrills and spills anyway! We certainly discovered why the Tarkine is a temperate RAINforest. Saw some amazing wildlife - white bellied sea eagles, wedge-tailed eagles, azure kingfishers, platypuses etc. I caught a beaut little trout, and had him in the boat for lunch, but he got washed out when we got smashed on a rather surprising rock hiding at the next rapid! We made it down to the ocean at Arthur River settlement just in time, and a day early, before the weather REALLY went crazy! The struggle to keep the camera dry conflicts with the desire to get it out to shoot just when the river is wildest For that reason, there are no shots of exciting bits of river. Just campsites and eddies! Anyway...back in "civilisation" now, which as usual seems a bit offensive at first
