Gill and I have shared a couple of great outdoor adventures recently. The first was the walk in to Federation Peak, and the aborted attempt on this fabled peak via Moss Ridge, and the Bechervaise Plateau... The second, on the weekend just past, was a kayaking trip around the southeast of Bruny. Had a bit of a frightener where I got pile-driven into some rocks inside a sea-arch/cave by a rogue wave, splintering the nose of Nick's kayak, and spitting both me and Gill out into the spin cycle of surges in the cave...exciting and scary! We also did a couple of new routes just north of Arched Island - Nick did a great line up a 15 metre left trending crack at a sustained 18 (E2 5c) and I did a bold little arete and mantle number to the right at about 17 (two tricky moves, about E1/E2 5b) which will be called either "spin cycle" or "buttons in a washing machine" depending on which still sounds good in a week or two! Sunday was spent battling into vicious 25 knot headwinds with double-head-high wind-driven white caps, to crab around the south of Bruny and across Cloudy Bay and skulk into the lagoon. We gathered a few massive rogue Pacific Oysters off the rocks, and went back to Nick and Marls' for a hunter-gatherer feast of crayfish, abalone and oysters! Yum!
